New York is New Yorking, Part 1

The city has bounced back, and is better than ever

A litte hello from me:

I’ve written about my former home of New York City in the past. I lived here for 10 years!

But what I’ve perhaps failed to express before was how resilient it is.

Sure, it was easy for naysayers during the bleakest of the bleak Covid year that predicted the city was “dead.”

I, too, was skeptical the city would ever recover.

I was here for it all. It was not pretty.

Even subsequent visits since over the years never gave me the impression that it was back to its pre-Covid glory.

Perhaps because I didn’t get out and about in the belly as much as I could have, due to weather and sheer laziness and not filling my social calendar.

How to look like a New Yorker

But this week, when I had the opportunity to fly in all by my lonesome, my schedule was chock-a-block with work and play.

I finally saw for myself: the city is back, baby.

Even if it’s unclear who’s actually running New York at the moment.

In fact, as I write this I am heading to one of the two New York baseball team’s playoff games (guess which: Yankees or Mets?)

Next week, I’ll have a total retrospective of what I did and where I went.

A few highlights:

• A visit to the New York Stock Exchange

• A comedy show release party in the heart of SoHo

• Shopping in the West Village and SoHo

• Dining in bustling NoMad

• Girls’ night out in the Meatpacking District

• A visit to the limited time Siena exhibit at the Met

• A jaunt to the Upper East Side for a bougie breakfast

• Buses, subways, taxis, and Ubers…and lots of walking
