My mom’s miracle brew to cure all your blahs
This easy homeopathic broth gets you on the road to recovery
There’s nothing worse than a mosquito buzzing in your bedroom — than waking up with the dreaded sore throat.
Such was my plight after a month of travel out west, followed by jet lag, a road and beach trip, and climate shifts between scorching heat and ice cold A/C.
My body finally succumbed and in its weakened state, speculation set in quickly: What external forces caused this? Did I not wash my hands adequately? Was the bedroom A/C too high? Was I just worn down after traveling, which also involved being around a lot of people? Was it stress from other factors?
The old wives’ part of me can get quite creative. 😉

When I’m feeling blah, I look to the one elixir that offers instant healing and soothing: My mom’s miracle brew.
The best part?
It’s easy to make and you only need 4 ingredients: water, ginger, lemon juice, and honey.
And you don’t have to be meticulous about measurements.
On their own, each ingredient is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory powerhouse: honey is also known for its throat-soothing and antibacterial properties. Ginger has long been proven to reduce nausea, aid indigestion, and even fight the flu and common cold. And adding lemon to water offers a potassium boost and helps prevents kidney stones,
Every time I make this broth and sip it slowly, I feel better.
It’s just as good as the English afternoon tea on a cold and cloudy day.
No matter your ailment: sore throat, cold, flu, headache, indigestion, or just feeling gross, this broth helps. It’s like a warm hug to sip on the couch as you binge the night away and recover.
Here’s how to make it.
Shindy’s Mom’s Miracle Healing Broth
What you’ll need
Ginger - peeled and sliced
Lemon - 1 slice
Water - best filtered
Honey - many options (I use any variety of manuka or organic or lighter or darker varieties)
Eye of newt; wool of bat (kidding! 🦇😈)
Cooking instructions
Fill a pot about halfway with water and bring to a boil
Peel and cut ginger into thin slices
3. When water’s boiling, add ginger slices
4. Cover, reduce heat and simmer on low for 20 minutes.
5. After about 20 minutes, pour enough for one serving; add lemon and honey to taste
6. Simmer the remaining for longer to achieve a darker color, and/or keep the rest for later
7. Sip slowly and enjoy
Recipe notes:
The longer you simmer the ginger, the more the brew will begin to take on a tan and amber color. The ginger’s spiciness will also develop more. So if you like your broth with more of a kick, then simmer your brew for longer.
Honey is a wonderful natural sweetener. Though I don’t use a lot for each cup, you can of course add more if you like a sweeter taste.
And that’s it! What delicious homeopathic recipes are in your arsenal?
