How to make money in 2025
My curated list of ideas, people, and research for building and growing what's next
My gift to you: How to make more money in 2025.
I’ve compiled a free list of ways to potentially make more money and get rich(er) in 2025.
It’s like a book list but instead it’s full of resources for videos, newsletters and ideas, and goes beyond basic saving and investing—which I hope you’re already doing.
I haven’t put the full list in today’s newsletter because it’s really long…but I also want you to be able to have it in multiple formats, hence hitting the buttons above 👆 or below 👇.
This is for you (or someone you know) if you want to create a new or additional income stream for yourself.
It may even lead to building substantial wealth and leaving a legacy for you and your family.
Why am I doing this?
The purpose of my newsletter has always been to help others live better, by providing useful and valuable tips for life, traveling, work, and money.
Back in January 2023 I found myself freshly unemployed as a result of the terms of an exit/earn-out agreement from selling my company.
While it was some of the most rewarding work of my life, in the immediate aftermath I was totally burned out.
After years of working a non-stop, deadline-driven role which had me involved in most parts of the business, I was in a daze for a long time.
Then malaise kicked in.
Only in the past year has my brain fog cleared up (thanks to therapy and hormone re-balancing) and I’ve once again found the motivation, ambition, and drive to get back into the swing of things.
By “swing of things” I mean I’ve been researching where I want to focus my attention and capital, and what to do next.
So I asked myself:
Do I want to create a new (retail or food) product?
How do I know what kind of product to invent or good to sell, and how do I get started?
How and where should I sell a good/retail product? Etsy? Amazon? My own website?
Do I want to invest in real estate?
Do I want to start an AirBnb (or AirBnb-adjacent) business?
Do I want to go viral on social media with my personal brand?
Do I want to write a digital course that I could sell to a niche audience?
How do I monetize my social media channels?
Should I bother doing more with my crypto portfolio?
I consider myself a bit of a multi-hyphenate; I have endless curiosity and love reading and research, so I went down lots of rabbit holes for all my interests.
As for wealth-building, no one has a crystal ball about where our economy will be one, two, or even 5 years from now.
People can only speculate about what may happen under this presidency or the next.
Codie Sanchez says, “In times of uncertainty—just build.”
What I do know is: The one thing that…
— gave me the most financial freedom I’ve ever experienced,
— a lifestyle by my own design,
— confidence and power to be on my own (after not having been alone for a long time), and,
— flexibility to take on private client work at my speed, with time to plan for what’s next
…was the decision to start my own business.
It’s not for everyone—I’m just sharing what worked for me.
I know people who have achieved their definition of financial freedom and success with interesting, multi-faceted careers at at wonderful workplaces.
I also know people who are happiest with full-time jobs, but also are able to pursue side hustles and make additional income with their specialized skills and knowledge.
Whatever works for you!
I’ve written before about how I had early success in a financial services career.
But then, I decided to pivot back to what I went to college for: journalism, specifically financial journalism.
Along the way, it was hard post-financial-crisis to get back on my feet.
I was also fresh out of business school, newly divorced, and trying to make it in London and New York.
I’ve also been laid off, fired, and rejected for roles.
The only guarantee that such things will never happen to you is if you work for yourself.
It takes a lot of self belief when you cast off the security blanket of employer benefits, and it’s hard work.
But you may just surprise yourself at how much fun you’ll have making money on your terms.
What started as my side hustle—writing and editing financial content for people in my network—eventually became my main hustle of managing a team of writers and editors to create content for some of the world’s biggest financial brands.
And now, I’m focused on what’s next.
But before I devote any time or effort into any business, I research.
Yes, I get “shiny object syndrome” but this is the fun part when you’re in a planning phase.
There is so much money in the world to be had, and yet while I have many interests, I won’t get behind a new business (retail or service-based), where I’m not passionately interested or curious about it.
What’s in the list? A curated selection of videos and links that I’ve learned from this year, including topics on:
How to AirBnb arbitrage
How to grow, go viral, and/or make money on social media
How to simplify your life and social media with AI
Resources from people who create interesting things
Mindset shifts for work ambition, motivation, and empire building
These resources are from a mix of creators I know personally, were introduced to, or simply found while pursuing valuable and practical strategies and tactics.
If your intent is to build passive income, get rich(er), and create and build in 2025, then I hope my list helps with ideas for an abundant and fortuitous year.
